Illuminations part of the Aldeburgh Festival 2016

Inspired by the hyper-sensual surrealism of Rimbaud’s poetry set in Britten’s song cycle Les Illuminations, director Struan Leslie creates a newly-commissioned staging fusing music and contemporary circus performance.

As a feat of sustained fantasy and technical prowess, the show was beyond praise. The circus performers’ daring made one’s jaw drop, and often there was a poetic sensitivity to their pirouettes.
